How long to stay in sarajevo

There are plenty of excellent outdoor attractions — perfect for travellers with an adventurous spirit.

Located in the heart of the Old Town of Konjic, Mini Hostel is perfect for backpackers looking for a more local experience in Bosnia and Herzegovina! They have a large common room where you can unwind with other guests, and a terrace is where you can admire the beautiful scenery of the surrounding town. Despite being a budget-friendly accommodation choice, Hotel Oaza has some great added extras to give you a touch of luxury during your stay!

They offer a car rental service — perfect for taking day trips to both Sarajevo and Kotor. A complimentary continental breakfast is provided every morning. There are plenty of sports facilities on-site, including a wellness centre where you can unwind after a day of activities. Free parking is also available. Located north of Gorica, Ciglane is a little off the beaten path as far as tourism is concerned but should absolutely be included on any itinerary of the city!

The Soviet-style apartment blocks give you an insight into life during the Cold War era Yugoslavia, and many of the restaurants and bars are decades old.

As it is a little less touristy, Ciglane is also a delight for any travellers sticking to a tight budget! The aptly named Hostel is one of the best options for backpackers looking to save money whilst visiting Sarajevo! Though all rooms are privates, it maintains a communal atmosphere with a large sitting room and a terrace. Free parking is available on-site, and each room has its own seating area and workspace. Though this hostel has a somewhat Soviet appearance, this adds to the charm of staying in Ciglane!

Rooms are very well priced, and all of them come with private bathrooms and modern technology. A large buffet breakfast is provided free of charge to all guests, and WiFi can be accessed throughout. Rooms are beautifully decorated with classic furniture, and there are large communal spaces where you can mingle with other guests. Security belts are great because they are affordable and can fit a ton of stuff in them great for peace of mind! Check out our favorite travel belt! Neighborhood 6 — Bistrik Best neighbourhood in Sarajevo for couples!

Just on the opposite side of the river from Bascarsija, Bistrik is well connected to the main attractions of the city whilst still maintaining and quiet and suburban atmosphere! This makes it a great choice for couples staying in Sarajevo for a short break. The leafy streets have a romantic atmosphere and have plenty of local boutiques and restaurants. The War Hostel is more of an experience than an accommodation choice, and guests are required to stay for two nights. You will be shown around the hostel by a survivor of the Bosnian War.

There is no internet, beds are basic and gunshot sounds ring all night! Located within a historic building, this hotel is situated right on the riverfront, giving you easy access to both Bistrik and Bascarsija! Family owned, it has a very welcoming atmosphere that is perfect for couples on a budget. A continental breakfast is served every morning, and free parking is available. BA Apartments offer a wide range of holiday apartments in Bistrik, giving you extra privacy and some additional facilities!

The kitchens are well equipped, making them a great choice for couples and families that want to self-cater. Free high-speed WiFi is available in every apartment, as are parking facilities. Located deep within the mountain suburbs, Hrasno offers an entirely different experience from central Sarajevo!

This is where traditional Bosnia and Herzegovina life blends with urban culture to give you a more authentic feel during your trip. I have been using World Nomads for some time now and made a few claims over the years.

Where to Stay in Sarajevo. View on Airbnb. View on Hostelworld. View on Booking. Sarajevo Neighborhood Guide. Learn More Now! Which is the best area to stay in Sarajevo? Where is good to stay in Sarajevo on a budget? The scenery along this route makes this trip worthwhile on its own. Where to eat : One of my favourite restaurants in Mostar is the Sadrvan restaurant. There is an extensive menu full with traditional Bosnian dishes. This is one of the best places to try Bosnian food that is not cevapcici.

The delicious stews with vegetables, meat and spices are delicious. Where to sleep: there are plenty of hostels for backpackers such as Hostel David , Hostel Musala and Layla guesthouse.

One of the most interesting day trips from Mostar is to the little village of Blagaj. The ancient Dervish monastery that sits at the foot of a steep cliff besides the spring of the Buna river is one of the most photographed attractions in Bosnia.

The year old monastery is now a museum that shows you how the monks once used to live. Blagaj has a much longer history though. There used to be an Illyrian settlement and a Roman settlement before the Ottomans arrived in the 15th century. They built several mosques, guesthouses, madrassas, mills and stone bridges.

On top of the hills above Blagaj are the remains of a medieval fortress. It is a 1 hour hike with spectacular views from the top. How to get there: bus 10 and bus 11 leave every hour from the United World College at the Spanish square. It costs only 2.

Blagaj is not the only day trip you can take from Mostar. The area around Mostar is home to several scenic tourist attractions.

Unfortunately they are a bit more difficult to get to and either require your own transport or a tour. The good news is that it is very easy to arrange cheap tours in Mostar.

One of the most popular day trips from Mostar is to the beautiful Kravice waterfalls. The falls are 25 meters high, surrounded by trees and there is a natural pool at the base.

In summer you can go swimming there or take a boat trip to enjoy the scenic falls. Another nice day trip from Mostar is to the small town of Pocitelj.

A medieval village with a beautiful mosque and ancient fort that has an even more spectacular location than Mostar. Another great extension to this Bosnia itinerary is central Bosnia with Travnik and Jajce. Travnik is an old and colorful Ottoman town with an ancient fortress and is midway between Sarajevo and Jajce.

Jajce is famous for its waterfall that is right in the city center and its traditional wooden water mills. The good thing about this itinerary extension is that it is still easy to do with public transport from Sarajevo.

If you have extra time consider adding a few days exploring central Bosnia before heading to Mostar. This Bosnia itinerary extension is one I can truly recommend, even though it will require your own transport. Una National Park and the Una river is one of the most beautiful areas in Bosnia. The story goes that the Una river got its name from a Roman soldier. I can personally say that the Una is indeed one of the most spectacular rivers in Bosnia.

Accommodation is available in either regular hotel rooms or suites, all of which feature free WiFi, private bathrooms with a walk-in shower, large windows offering city views, a flat-screen TV, and a coffee and tea maker. Additionally, the Golden Rain Spa offers spa and beauty treatments and has an indoor pool.

It was renovated in and now features all kinds of modern amenities and facilities. For example, guests can enjoy the on-site casino, fitness center, massage rooms, beauty and hair salons, spa center, and swimming pool. The lobby offers several different services, including a collection of boutiques, a tobacco shop, a currency exchange office, and a car rental service. At the on-site National Restaurant, guests can indulge in international specialties as well as typical Bosnian cuisine.

The Caffe Inn is an excellent place to relax during the day or even do some partying in the evening. These apartments in Sarajevo are situated in a peaceful neighborhood just meters from the beautiful Latin Bridge built by the Ottoman Turks.

It is also within a km radius of all the major attractions in Sarajevo. This apartment in Sarajevo is within walking distance of supermarkets Amko and MAS and several restaurants and cafes. Renting rooms in Sarajevo at Apartment Cobanija is better than staying at other hotels in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina if you want something intimate and private.

The apartment comes equipped with an indoor and outdoor dining area, living room, radio, bathtubs, washing machine, air conditioning, free WiFi, safe, TVs with pay per view and satellite channels, hairdryer, iron, sofa, hypoallergenic linen, blu ray player, and secure baby gates. We loved this place! Our two kids had a great time here — although it is 15 minutes by car to the historical center, the hotel itself is nothing but peace, relaxation, and fun.

All of that can be used free of charge by guests, while massage treatments are offered for an extra fee. As a bonus, a couple of incredible viewpoints of the city below are just down the road! Several restaurants provide guests with traditional Bosnian and international dishes — there is a restaurant on the rooftop and one in the swimming pool area. Guests can use airport shuttles at a charge, and free parking is available on site.

Every room is sophistically decorated, spacious, soundproofed, and has a balcony. Pick a room with mountain views to wake up to beautiful nature. This hotel dates back to —it was completely renovated in —and offers a variety of business and meeting facilities. Guests can enjoy complimentary parking and WiFi and use the facilities of the nearby Spa Hotel Terme.
