Capable of a seven-second time, allied with a perfectly-balanced chassis, the SX was a strong competitor to the dominant German offerings. Robust and easy to modify they can be turned into serious track machines, something the drifting community has taken advantage of for some time. Left standard, the SX is an eminently usable modern classic — but finding one will prove to be somewhat challenging. Whatever your intentions, take a read through our guide to see what they are like to own second hand.
Offered solely in coupe body style, power was sent to the rear through either a four-speed auto or five-speed manual gearbox. As the SX was already two years old by the time it arrived in the UK, the mid-life facelift arrived in A more aggressive front end with new headlight clusters was introduced and minor mechanical improvements, such as a move to ball bearing turbochargers, were carried out. Touring specification models received additional kit such as 10 CD changer, leather and bodykit on facelifted models.
Unmodified cars can be quite hard to come by, so unless you are dead set on a standard one a mildly modified SX will be far easier to source. There are also a few JDM imports around but make sure there is a service history to go along with it. More power. Ball bearing turbo. Boost guage. Silvia badge. A lot higher insurance. Which one is deerer to insure?
If you were to get a turbo off the jdm s15 and put it on the adm s15 i assume this would increase the power but would they then be the same or is there other differnces like the computer? The tune is different.
The only difference in the turbo is one has a ball bearing core the other one is bush. Yes the JDM one has more power from a more agressive tune. The JDM will be more expensive and harder to insure. Fitting the jap turbo to an aus model isnt going to make more power.
I found purchasing the JDM was cheaper for me. The ADM model is more easily insured but when my mate was looking to buy his the ADM was actually more to insure for some reason For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. Thread starter jp Start date 24 August Tags sx difference huge price silvia. The one thing that confuses me is that it has SX on the back but Silvia written on the inside passenger side???
Which one is it cause this would make a HUGE difference to the price of me importing it if I went for something like this Nicely Moving on Founder of S15OC. Its an ADM its got the manual heater controls.
All the Silvia branding is the same except the bonnet and boot badges, steering wheel and gear knob. Spec R is a higher spec though. You really need to read more S15 threads! Nicely said:. Topper Flying Scotsman. Its in the diff housing! If you think you can drive a fairly light, TURBO, rear wheel drive in the wet like you can in the dry, you shouldn't have a licence! I checked the fluid and it was good. CarGurus has 2 nationwide Silvia listings and the tools to find you a great deal.
